Message from our new Principal, Mr. Klein
My name is Keith Klein and I am excited to be the new principal at Columbia Elementary. It is a place where I have already learned staff truly care about students and want to help them be ready to succeed at the next level.
I have been a principal for 27 years at the elementary and middle level and have worked in four different states. My wife and I have been in education over 30 years and it is our passion. We are returning to Utah after ten years working in Wyoming. We have three daughters two of whom teach and one is a nurse. I enjoy the outdoors; hunting, fishing, and hiking are some of my favorite activities.
I have come to learn that we often complicate education and this often keeps students from excelling. If students are literate and can read at grade level fluently and can manipulate numbers in decimal and fraction form before they leave 6th grade they are on a path to success. Parents play a vital role in this success by reinforcing the importance of the two things as well as making the use of these skills a priority to be developed away from school as well. Education is partnership where we all work together to cereal productive citizens. This goes beyond academics to person development as well. Students at Columbia will have the opportunity to come to know themselves better through our Social and Emotional Learning curriculum that is a new part of our specials rotation. This will enable them to have more productive interactions and relationships here at school and throughout life.
It is my desire that we have a school that resembles a mix of three environments. I hope we are 1/3 Disneyland (tons of fun), 1/3 Harvard (rigorous academics), and 1/3 West Point (structure and order). It is my hope to have school that student look forward to coming to and see Columbia as the path to future success and happiness in life. Please join us to make this happen for our students. I would love to hear from parents, and community members if there is any feedback you have or support you need as we pursue success at the next level for our students.

Mi nombre es Keith Klein y estoy emocionado de ser el nuevo director de Columbia Elementary. Es un lugar donde ya he aprendido que el personal realmente se preocupa por los estudiantes y quiere ayudarlos a estar listos para tener éxito en el siguiente nivel.
He sido directora durante 27 años en el nivel primario y medio y he trabajado en cuatro estados diferentes. Mi esposa y yo hemos estado en educación más de 30 años y es nuestra pasión. Estamos regresando a Utah después de diez años trabajando en Wyoming. Tenemos tres hijas, dos de las cuales enseñan y una es enfermera. Disfruto del aire libre; La caza, la pesca y el senderismo son algunas de mis actividades favoritas.
He aprendido que a menudo complicamos la educación y esto a menudo impide que los estudiantes sobresalgan. Los estudiantes de Columbia tendrán la oportunidad de conocerse mejor a sí mismos a través de nuestro plan de estudios de aprendizaje social y emocional que es una nueva parte de nuestra rotación de especiales. Esto les permitirá tener interacciones y relaciones más productivas aquí en la escuela y durante toda la vida.
Es mi deseo que tengamos una escuela que se asemeje a una mezcla de tres entornos. Espero que seamos 1/3 Disneyland (toneladas de diversión), 1/3 Harvard (académicos rigurosos) y 1/3 West Point (estructura y orden). Es mi esperanza tener una escuela a la que el estudiante espera venir y ver a Columbia como el camino hacia el éxito futuro y la felicidad en la vida.
